6-the-good-photo-project-2008-07-181 Paperstone wont fire a nuclear reactor

We have a very cool countertop in our Good project called Paperstone. I was wary at first just for the simple fact that it is made from paper. Well I do think my concern is unfounded. We have had 5 or 6 pretty serious dinner parties in the kitchen now and the counters look great, like they did when they were installed. Anyway a friend sent me this article today about granite countertops. Being the construction guy at LJ, I get lots of questions about products and whenever people are telling me that they are putting granite in their remodeled homes, I always remind them that it is cheap for a reason. Usually the reason is because it came from China, but now I have a whole new argument to not recommend it.

The Wall Street Journal Digs Sacramento

July 7th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I was very happy to open up the Wall Street Journal today and see the article about urban development in Sacramento that Anna Campoy worked on for so long finally made it to print. And it made it square in the middle of the front page! I am a little sad I must admit that the interview I did with her did not make it in the article but I have to just get over that because its so cool for Sacramento. Here is a link to the article, they also did a little video about urban development to go along with the story.

Man Climbs NY Times Building

June 5th, 2008 · 1 Comment

So check this guy out. He wanted to make a statement today about global warming and did a very good job at it. He climbed the NY times building in 45 minutes with no rope harness or parachute. He hung a banner half way that read “Global warming kills more people every day than 9-11″ Upon reaching the top he was arrested. Way to spread your message Alain. We should all learn a little something about spreading the word on things that matter from Alain Robert. He has a site called thesolutionissimple.org that I am sure is getting a ton of well deserved traffic today.

And as if that was not inspiring enough, look at what this 12 year old has to say.

LJUrban in Sacramento News & Review

If you get a chance grab a SN&R and look at page 19. They did a little plug about LJ Urban and our opening event for Good this Saturday.

I was out all day at the site helping tie up loose ends and preparing for this Saturday. The house is really coming together nicely. I have to stop talking about it so much and just let you see for yourself just how revolutionary it is.

This Could Be Good…

May 21st, 2008 · 3 Comments

Today I met again with Blair Robertson from the Bee. It seems that they are really taking this story seriously, which makes me really happy. The closer we get to finishing the house at Good, the more I remember what this is really all about and that it’s a story worth talking about. We are not here to just sell houses, we are here for a much bigger mission and just one walk through the house proves that point like no other.

I am really glad to be working with Blair on this story. I have been interviewed many times over the last few years, but never by someone who really knew what they were doing like he does. It’s like he really cares when he asks questions, and really wants to know more. I actually teared up a few times today when we were talking… That felt a little weird. It sounds like the story is going to come out Sunday and will include pictures of the event we are having on Saturday. I am actually glad because a lot more people read the paper on Sunday.

So, if you want to get your picture in the paper come over Saturday sometime between 10 - 2 and wear something really snazzy. They might just pick you out and put you in the paper!

Blair and I are going to meet again Friday and finish the interview. (If that is not determination to get the whole story, I don’t know what is!)

Nervous

May 20th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I am kind of nervous. Today at 10 I am going to meet with a writer from the Sacramento Bee and they said they are going to do a feature story on LJ Urban. I’m not sure what that means but it sounds important and I am a bit intimidated. I will let you know how it goes.

Then I have to come back here and do a smart sounding blog post before the story runs so that all the new people that come here think we are really cool.

Update: The meeting went really well today! Tomorrow I am going to write all about it. I am very excited to see the story that he is going to write.
