Come Check Out What We Have Done With The Place!

May 8th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Stop by to see what we have done with part of our building at 1931 H Street. The Urban Hive is opening its doors this Second Saturday (that’s tomorrow) for a sneak peek and art show, starting at 4:30. After, our favorite local green building supplier, Green Sacramento, is graciously using their great open part of the building for live music, including Nevada Backwards’ Brian Ballentine’s new band, Boulevard Park (fitting, since this is where the space is located).

With the help of some amazing people, a new space has been created, with a great vibe along with some some really cool people. We mentioned repurposing some our space once we needed less of it, and we have done it (with lightning speed, I might add). The idea behind the coworking space is to create a great eco-urban work environment for independent professionals to collaborate and work with like-minded people who have similar values. Kind of like a really cool company culture without the company.

Okay, so the space still isn’t ready for prime time and The Urban Hive (as it is called) won’t be officially up and running until June, but they are already operating with a group of “beta” members (and welcoming more!). Still have no idea what coworking is? That’s okay, come any way. It will be a good time.

If you can’t make it and would like to talk more about coworking in Sacramento, feel free to call Brandon at 916-524-9047, or email him at BrandonKWeber at Gmail dot com.

We Have A Winner!

May 2nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Congratulations to Joanie of Austin, Texas. Joanie purchased 5 raffle tickets and won the scooter drawing last night at the orphanage fund-raiser. I spoke with her today and she is ecstatic with joy over her win. She already found a shipping company and they will be picking it up and bringing it to her next week!

We had a great time at the event, and I want to thank everyone who came out and supported the effort to save these children in Ethiopia. All in all, and I am guessing here, I think there were around 250 people who showed up, which is very cool!

Thank you, and congratulations Joanie. Happy Scooting!

I Knew Old Soul Was Cool But This…

April 28th, 2009 · 5 Comments

This is off the charts. We are having the event this Thursday evening at their space in Midtown and they are making all sorts of crazy delicious food for us to snack on which is amazing but today they kicked things up a notch. Just read this description of the coffee they are roasting up just for the event…

Ethiopia Natural “Koratie”
Region – Sidamo, near town of Dilla.
Certifications – Shade-grown/Organic
Elevation – 6,069ft – 6,889ft
Plant varietals – Ethiopia Heirloom
Processing – Hand picked & cherries dried on raised beds.

Another spectacular coffee from the Sidamo region! This time we have the Koratie, a natural process coffee that is in the Dara region of Sidamo, just north of the Yirgacheffe area. Grown by small farm-holders near the town of Dilla at about 6,500ft elevation.

A higher price has been paid for this crop in assurance that only the perfectly ripe cherries would be harvested, not the green unripe ones.

This is a natural processed coffee which means the perfectly ripe cherries are directly laid out onto raised drying beds. The grades of this particular lot are a notch above the normal, Grade 4 or 5, this lot is Grade 3.

Lots like this is extremely hard to come by and Old Soul Co. roasters are completely humbled by this coffee’s presence.

In The Cup: Overwhelmingly aromatic! The nose of this coffee will have you chomping your chops for just a sip! Super berry (blueberry) with a maple syrup sweetness. Sweet ripe pineapples cool into a luscious low-toned fruit cocktail.

In Case You Did Not Get The Email…

Stepping Up.

LJ Urban has always been about seeing a need and stepping up to meet it. Sometimes there are needs too big to ignore outside the world directly in front of you, and you have to use your passion to do some good for people in another place.

You may have read recently on the blog about a new orphanage for children who were literally sentenced to death by their parents. The children come from a tribe in Ethiopia with very superstitious beliefs and we are going to rescue these kids and help give them a future. I visited there last month and have been writing about what we’re doing to help out.

Here is a video we put together that tells the story about how this all came together.

We’re having an event at Old Soul to help raise funds for these kids and we want you to come! Today there are 10 kids who have been saved and we expect that there will be many more over the next few months. It’s an understatement to say that your help is needed…the orphanage is a month old right now and is in desperate need of support in every way.

No GOOD Tour Sunday

March 14th, 2009 · 1 Comment

We hate to cancel, but…

We just learned that B Street will be closed for road work Sunday, between the levee and 5th, making access and parking for the Good project less than optimal, to say the least. So, needless to say, we are canceling Sunday’s open house and tour. We hope this hasn’t been too much of an inconvenience for anybody. If you would like to make an appointment for a personal tour, please call Brandon at 916-524-9047 or email: Brandon [at] LJUrban.com.

The Good news? We are planning another event in the next week or so during which Micah will be giving a hard hat tour of the new Medium unit, which we are all very excited about. Of course, we will also be viewing our S and XS units, thanks to some very generous neighbors. Stay posted here for updates.

More Opportunities To See Good

March 11th, 2009 · No Comments

Just a quick note to let you know that our Good project will be open to tour again this week. There is still an opportunity to see a Good home up close and personal before our last model of the first phase closes escrow next week. Please stop by this Thursday (3/12) or Friday (3/13), between 4:30 and 6:30, or Sunday (3/15), between 10:30 and 2:30, to tour the Good community.

We are currently selling the second phase (which will be completed this summer), so if you know anybody looking for something Good, please help us spread the word.

As always, if you can’t make it to the times above, we show Good by appointment. So please give Brandon a call at (916) 930-9400 x0 or email: brandon[at]ljurban.com.

Up To $18,000 In Federal And State Tax Credits For Good

March 5th, 2009 · 4 Comments

People have been asking about the new incentives for home purchases in the state of California, so we wanted to explain them here. I promise to be brief…

As of Sunday, the State of California will give a $10,000 tax credit to purchasers of new homes in California. The requirements are that you live in the home for three years, that it is your principal residence, and that you purchase the home before March of 2010. This is a credit (far better than a deduction!). You can spread the credit out over three years. This credit is in addition to the $8,000 federal tax credit that Congress passed last month, for a total of $18,000 in tax credits that you can receive when you make a Good home yours.

We are currently selling the second phase of Good and will be touring the project this Friday evening between 4:30 and 6:30, if you would like to stop by. We are in West Sacramento at the corner of 4th and B streets (just come over the I Street bridge from downtown and follow the signs). If you have any more questions or would like to arrange a private tour, please call us at 916-930-9400 x0.

Come Tour Good Friday

March 4th, 2009 · No Comments

We will be touring the Good project this Friday, between 4:30 and 6:30.

Our last completed home of the first stage is scheduled to be closing escrow within the next couple of weeks, so we thought that this might be a good opportunity for those of you who are interested in viewing one of our finished homes before the next phase is done. It will also be a chance to tour the community and get a sneak peak of the new Medium model that is still under construction.

If you are interested in finding out more about what goes into Good (whether you are looking to buy or are just curious), make sure to drop by any time between 4:30 and 6:30 on Friday.

If your Friday evenings are more exciting than ours (which is a pretty simple feat), we will be hosting another tour of the home and project again next week (we will keep you updated). As always, feel free to call us for a personal tour by appointment at 916-930-9400 x0.
