One of the things that we really enjoy as a company is when we take this online community of people with a shared passion for all things “sustainable” and get them together for real. It’s what I believe the internet is really for after all. Connecting people.

Starting in mid March we are going to host a new series at the Good project called What Makes Good? At least 3 times a month we are going to have a different person give a presentation on topics that may vary from things like LEED certification and what it takes to be certified as a project to gardening in Sacramento (what to plant when) We may even pull in someone to teach a class on defensive bike riding in the urban core, or perhaps a movie now and again.

The events will be held at the Good project but occasionally when we think we are going to have a big crowd we will host at the Green Sacramento Shop.

When we say what makes good we don’t just mean the Good project that is just one example of how to live a good green lifestyle we will be all over the map with new ways to live out your passion.

Look for an announcement over the next few days in your email (if you are signed up on the top right of this page) We will be letting you know the what when and where for the first of What Makes Good?

And so we get the ball rolling right now in 100 words or less comment below your answer to What Makes Good?

Ready? Go.

Classes sound good. I would love it if you worked with existing groups in the community when putting them on. For example SABA and the Bike Kitchen for bike classes. After this weekend there will be an additional 10 League certified bike trainers in the area.

AJ- What about a 5-1-1 info session?  I think it will revolutionize the way we travel in the Sacramento region.  Maybe it’s a little premature for a presentation, but I’m excited about the changes…

What are the 5-1-1 info sessions?

511 in our area isn’t ready for a big public push, but it will be soon.  http://www.sacregion511.org/

It’s a phone number and a website that has all sorts of travel info. In the bay area you can call up and get driving times, transit info etc.

Soon we will have traffic, driving times, bicycle trip planner on the site/phone.  Currently there is rideshare, Bike Month and a transit trip planner.

    Sharing makes good.

We can share: ideas, space, home-grown crops, internet, cars, meals, stories, bicycles, man-power…  By sharing we can reduce the amount of things we individually possess, and increase time/interaction with our neighbors.  Sharing is community.

(Levi, please ask ME for a favor sometime…)

    Good:
When people slow down to recognize oneanother’s needs and address them, when people decide to act out of selfless compassion, when people talk to eachother rather than avoid eye contact, when people think outside our contrived “Americana” lifestyle, when people deny egotism, when people want to teach the children, when people want to reach out and help, when people choose love no matter the cost.
