The Good Life

Its fun to move into a new neighborhood not too far from where you were before, you can discover a whole new place without having to start all over finding new friends and a new life. We moved into Good about 2 weeks ago and are really starting to get into the rhythm of the neighborhood. There is a completely different vibe in West Sacramento than Sacramento and we think its pretty cool. Just down the street there is a massive gymnastics place that the kids absolutely love, even our 20 month old has a class there and thinks its the best. There is Pooja the Indian place that has the lunch buffet do die for (if you work at the City of West Sacramento you know what I am talking about for sure).

Tonight we are going to go on a walk to old town, its the kids favorite place and its only about 5 minutes from here. I just love that there are all these little hidden treasures around, like the tree a block from here that has 3 rope swings on it. (we are there nearly every day). Or the tacos at Ay Jalisco that are so good you have to restrain yourself from going there every day.

It just would not be right if I did not mention my morning commute. LJ Urban is on 20th and H and so I ride my bike over the I St bridge and go down J all the way to 20th. Its kind of a rush, you come off the bridge and head down the hill onto J St and if you are lucky and get a green from the start you can keep getting green lights all the way to 20th. Its this fun urban ride that wakes you up and gets you ready for the day..  Plus, I just took an old frame and made a fixed gear out of it so that makes the ride even more fun.

But most of all we like living in a neighborhood like this that has a soul. Its a place that has not quite found itself, yet has massive potential and is just starting to decide what it wants to be. This neighborhood is somewhere we can put our heart into and make it home. We have lived in many places in our life and the neighborhoods where everything is planned out and its all clean and new just don’t offer the same opportunity to put down your roots and make something. I like this.

West Sacramento really is a hidden gem with a vibe I feel fortunate to be part of.  Coming back to Sacramento after 8 years in the Central Valley its funny how West Sacramento still has a stigma it really doesn’t deserve.  Anyone who crosses the river, though, sees how lucky we are to live here.
