Jaclyn from ECOS sent over a bit of fun the upcoming Fall Festival that ECOS is putting on here in Washington. I thought I would share it with you.
What do wine corks, beer caps, and a hand-held drill have in common? No, that isn’t the recipe for a fun Saturday night. These are all materials that can be used to create lovely holiday décor. If you attend Falling into Green on October 25th from 3-6pm at 620 4th St. (4th & F in West Sacramento) you’ll learn how to jazz up your holiday season using items you would otherwise recycle or throw away. Developing these eco-crafty activities has been loads of fun. Often when you make crafts out of trash, the finished product looks…well…kind of trashy. I spent many hours perfecting these simple projects and they are stunning, if I say so myself. My guess is that you would be proud to give these decorative items as gifts to your friends and family. After you finish up at the eco-crafting workshop, make your way over to the not so conventional gift wrapping area. Crafty volunteers will teach festival-goers how to make gift bags out of newspapers and gift boxes out of magazines. We’ll also demonstrate how to use inexpensive vintage scarves to wrap gifts. No wrapping paper needed! Imagine the waste you’ll eliminate this holiday season. If these activities don’t get you in a festive mood, have no fear. Stroll over to the non-toxic face painting table where you can be dolled up like a local endangered/sensitive species such as the Sand Hill Crane, Swainson’s Hawk, Giant Garter Snake, or Fairy Shrimp (yeah that’s right…a fairy shrimp). All of this is in addition to the other offering at the Falling into Green fall fest. There’ll be live music (the Schwamigos & Hard Clumpin’ Litter), outstanding local cuisine (including the Green Gourmet Cook-Off), interactive environmental activities with Peak Adventures (Sac State’s outdoor program), pumpkin patch, farm stand, info booths, oh and did I mention a beer & wine garden? The 36th Annual Environmentalists of the Year Awards will also be presented at this event. Tickets are only $25 and proceeds go to support ECOS (Environmental Council of Sacramento). Purchase tickets over here or get them at the door. Hope to see you there!
