For those looking to make a difference in the place they live, I would argue that the first and simplest step you can take is to start Blogging. It unlike many other options is an easy first step and has the potential to evolve into something bigger. Not just bigger on the blog side but bigger impact, more collaborative, less you in your living room thinking alone.
