This is relatively new to me but worth listening to if you like the energy question.  Pickens is just comforting to listen to with the Texas drawl and all. Click on the link and watch the short video on the landing page.

I can’t get a good handle on this guy. Is he legit, and is he doing this for the right reasons? Or is he a 20th century oil-barren turned 21st century wind-barren?

    Steven,
I have not researched his company much but I do get the sense that he is doing it for the right reasons. Honestly I think, if he is right about the energy production the midwest can harness in wind power, does it really matter what his motive is? Replacing coal fired plants in the middle of our country is a good thing when the resource is in the air. Let me know if you find out some dirt. Thanks

Wow, just watched the video and truly inspired by his proposition!

It seems like some basic economic principles and he’s right about the wind. I was born, raised and educated in Kansas. Let me tell you that the wind is always blowing in Kansas, and they don’t call it Tornado alley for nothing. I’ve always thought of Solar being the way to go out there because of the states abundant sunshine, but due to the severe weather, panels could be damaged by wind & hail, not to mention tornadoes.

Just think of these wind generators pumping out huge amounts of wind energy, and even during a storm where winds can blow in excess of 70 mph. You can harness huge amounts in renewable power, storing it for later peak consumption. There is an enormous amount of energy out there, never created or destroyed, but constantly changing form, why can’t wind energy be one of those forms.

Take Greensburg, KS for example. You’ve got town in the middle of rural America striving to become the greenest town in America. This is typically a place where trends and innovations from California can take upwards of 5 to 10 years to become common place and they are turning the tables and setting the precedence for the rest of the country. Pickens ideas will stand to make him and others a lot of money, but I think we all end up winning in the end (or 10 years from now when it’s up and running)
