How cool would it be if we were to one day figure out how to build a fully sustainable fully off the grid home? I know that the houses birds build are actually more sustainable than these are but Inhabitat has a fun post up today about building bird houses out of garbage.
On the flip side of that concept, Barbara who I met at the last Eco-Urban dinner sent me a book called Biomimicry and it is really neat. I love the concept of looking at nature for cues on how to design and manufacture things in our lives. (Thanks Barbara!)

Levi,
Don’t fret, I’m just happy that you guys and the development community at large are able to do what little good you can now to help build momentum and foster awareness for sustainable building.
Just think with the rapid growth in technology and modern building science combined with our heighten sensitivity we will soon be able to grow houses that harness all the abundant energy that ebbs and flows right in front of us all day long. Solar, wind, wave, geothermal, radiant heat and all the untapped sources we haven’t realized.
Designers and engineers are making new chairs that mimic bone formations, or creating beautifully undulating kinetic houses and buildings skinned in photovoltaic paints, nano materials with walls and roofs that grow and renew and so much more.
It’s never been a better time to be alive, and to watch all the wonderful change that is occurring, and you’re right smack in the center of it. Good work. There is nothing sad about renewal, and it takes failure first to find success.
