Sad has taken on a whole new definition in the last 5 months for me, and so when I call this sad I mean on a lighter more “sad but we are still okay sad” and not a rip your heart out sad. Still to see that one of the four beautiful Oak trees we have taken so much care to preserve had to be cut down its sad.
I went out on the Good site today and saw that the day finally came, there were four and now there are only three… The Oak on the corner of 5th and B had to be removed because it had some sort of disease in its roots and we did not want it to fall down on anyone. It just makes me want to see the rest of the smaller oaks we planted grow up really quick and take its place.
Oh yeah that reminds me… We are going to be putting in a community garden in the next few weeks! We have always wanted a garden on our projects and are excited to finally have one!

You guys have done your best to save what you have, that’s all any of us can ask for. Any plans for the lumber that will come from it. Maybe a neat gazebo or shade structure to coincide with the community garden or even benches or a picnic table?

Love the community garden idea, every time I walk by the Mews I’m a little jealous (plus they have bocce). I think you should rent out garden space to your metro place neighbors

I second AJ’s previous comment. That garden at the Fremont Mews really does transform the neighborhood.

It was sad to see that oak go - we suspected something was awry when we saw mushrooms coming out near the base this winter. Turns out the trunk was buried 3 feet deep with soil some 15 years or so ago. Its amazing it held on as long as it did. We are currently checking the others to ensure that they have good structural roots and don’t meet the same fate.
