fake billboard2 Your Dream Home Awaits!... Blah, Blah, Blah

Not only are new home billboards really cheesy (when was the last time you got happy just seeing one) but they’re a waste of resources both environmentally and financially. Like most traditional ads, they’ve become so invasive that they’ve lost their ability to capture our interest. There have been a few granted that have made me chuckle (Chipolte’s clever, simple tongue-in-cheek stuff comes to mind) but I’ve yet to see one from the housing industry that made me feel anything except annoyance.

And then there’s the whole… blip, blip, blip phenomenon. If I’m driving in my car, do I really want to see (Buy This! Buy This, Buy This!) filling my eye-space and brain time. Nope.

I’d rather be able to either 1) tune out the sprawling suburban landscape and not be continually dragged into it every 20 seconds or 2) see the beautiful trees and hills or natural world BEHIND that rectangle of sheen, and smiles and Bling, Bling.

That said, it is good to see some creative folks like these people and these people, who are trying to minimize the environmental waste… minimize being the operative word here because there’s still the whole toxic manufacturing process tied to vinyl creation.

So, we’re trying to think up ways of speaking our message that are more authentic, more fun and better for everyone… imagine if advertising actually made the world a better place… that’s where we’re trying to go.
