Yes to Public Transportation. Yes to BikeShare and Car-Share. Heck Yes to Bikes and Walking.

But what eco-urban options are there for people living in cities where neither of the other options work for them and taxi service is a better option than driving their own car around (taxis are a form of car-share, after all)?

Or you just flew into a city and have no idea how to get somewhere other than call a cab…but you can’t stand the thought of the spewage coming out of the back end of the standard yellow and black gas-guzzler and really don’t want/need to rent a car.

Or what about the town-car service? Is there a less ostentatious, eco-option to the black Lincoln for working with clients that doesn’t shout “I’m in a Limo!” or “Bigger is Better” while still maintaining a level of professional service and inobtrusive style?
These guys are trying to fill this niche. The use Prius’s for the mid-size and Lexus RX400 for the luxury car. And despite my own “inner cringe” whenever eco and luxury get paired together, I think there’s a place for this kind of application…at the least, its a starting point…and apparently their cars even have an iBook in every backseat (with high-speed internet and Sirius satellite radio). Nice.

Here’s a bite from their site that speaks to their mission:

With OZOcar, Roo and Jordan are making it their mission to break down the myth that sustainability and style must be at odds. And to prove that commerce and sustainability can co-exist…

And for us really rich people that want an eco-friendly sports car: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_roadster

Only $98,000 or so. Pocket change for us hippie environmentalists.

I forgot to mention that OZOCar is (currently) only offered in NY. I found this GreenCab company in the Bay Area…wouldn’t be surprised to see these springing up in every major city…

I sort of have a secret love of the Tesla car you linked to Eric. Its just so cool to think that it could be that fast and not use any gas.

But just sort of, not really.
