Have you tried out the commuter calculator put out by the Sacramento TMA Commuter Club yet?

I did today and got an annual commute cost of $165.

I also got this in my e-mail today from the organization:

For information about all your commute options, join us Wednesday, September 19th at Capitol Park.

We’ll be on the west side of the Capitol building from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The community transportation fair will feature food, music and information from buses throughout the region, light rail, Amtrak, vanpools, and more.

Here’s what’s on my wishlist for the “and more” part: carshare programs, pedestrian-only zones (like the one planned for the 16th - 19th blocks of R Street), urban cycling maps, bike-share programs like Cyclocity , street-car system and a plan to get easier public transport to and from the Bay Area…

    Neat!

It gives me $291. That’s with a four-mile round trip an old, cheap car that gets 20 miles per gallon, and free parking.

Since I started at CSUS and officially can ride transit for free, I’m only driving to work two days a week instead of five (those two days my car is needed for work tasks.) That drops the price to $128. Considering that I didn’t buy a parking pass this semester (which would have cost like $180) I suppose I have less reason to grouch at the price of textbooks these days.
