LJUrban and Shiny Object Bring Radiant City Documentary to Sacramento

Back in April, we got wind of a recently released Canadian documentary, Radiant City, that seems to be articulating much of how we feel about Sprawl and its impacts on our lives and the planet. At the time, I threw out the notion of trying to get a showing here in Sacramento somehow and several readers gave suggestions, one of which has actually resulted in making this idea a reality (just one reason among many for why we have a blog: dialog generates solutions we couldn’t dream up on our own).

So, thanks to work of Robert at Shiny Object, Radiant City will get a showing at the Fools Foundation here in the urban core of Sacramento. It’ll be the only showing for this film in Sacramento and its only one night, so if this topic interests you, this is your chance to see it and connect with others who are interested in the whole eco-urban thing.

We’ll be talking after the show about the connection between the film and what we’re trying to do here in Sacramento and we hope to other leading Sacramento urbanists joining us on stage for a Q&A forum and discussion.

I talked with Robert from Shiny Object the other day about the demographics of the people who usually come to their shows. Interestingly, he said not a lot of midtowners show up; often, its people out in Folsom, Elk Grove, Rocklin, etc. I’d love to see a good mix myself: some from the urban core and some from the ‘burbs.

Date: August 24th
Location: 1025 19th Street, Suite 0 (in the alley, in the basement)
Cost: $5.00 at the door (all of which goes to supporting independent film and arts in Sacramento).

Hope to see some of you there!

Jason

Note: The event may not yet be up on the Shiny Object and Fools Foundation site, in case you go there…
