So apparently, the words “free house” have some power with the public. We weren’t quite prepared for the blitz of calls we’d get. Actually, the whole way this story has developed has been quite a ride.
For starters, we never issued a press release. All the “buzz” has been completely organic.
Originally, we were going to post the offer of the house here on our blog. But we wanted to give the first opportunity to the people in the immediate surrounding neighborhood. So we wrote letters to nearby lot owners and announced it at a neighborhood meeting. Someone at the meeting worked for the Bee and Bob Shallit picked up the story (after which we posted about it). The calls started coming in. Then, local news channels 13 and 31 got wind of it from the Bee article and decided to do a news feature on Good Morning Sacramento which ran Monday.
Since then, our phones have been going crazy. I don’t think we’ve had as many calls to our office in the last month as we’ve had in the last three days. Its been great to see the response; and its exciting to be doing something that demonstrates our commitment to eco-urban community even before we break ground on our first project.
All this help has given us several strong leads for the house and we have some pretty solid confidence that it will find a permanent home. We’ll let you know when anything gets firmed up.
If you happen to be one of these callers and are interested in the house, you’ll probably get the fastest response by contacting Steve via e-mail at steve @ ljurban dot com.
