Free Craftsman House Anyone?

As many of you probably read either here or in Bob Shallit’s column in today’s issue of the Bee, we’re trying to find a permanent home for the Craftsman currently occupying part of the land we’re developing for the Newton Booth Project at 27th and V (renderings of the project are in our gallery). The house is free providing someone has the capability and resources to coordinate the move of the house and, yes, its true, we’ll even help with a portion of the moving costs ourselves.

While we’re open to considering any and all options, our own research has indicated that the feasibility of moving the house outside of the immediate neighborhood is unlikely.

This is not a joke, people. We’re quite serious about our mission to create eco-urban community and very much hope to find a permanent home for this house. If for some reason we can’t make it work, we’ll recycle every possible part of it and work with the local preservationist groups to find homes for any signature Craftsman features.

The house is located on the north end of the block between V and W halfway between 27th and 28th. However, we’re asking anyone curious to please respect the privacy of the individuals currently living there. If you have a vacant lot or know someone who does and are seriously interested in talking with us, please contact Steve Schweigerdt at Steve at LJUrban dot com.

I am impressed with your philosophy and would like to know more about the house.
