Electric Scribble Car!

This is probably not something you’ve ever done before (or will ever do again). We think its going to be really fun.

Next Thursday (12/14), at 6pm, we’re gathering as many eco-urbanists as we can find at Old Soul to help us inscribe our new, three-wheeled, electric, company car with eco-urban messages. Yes, you did read that correctly. It’s a scribble-fest. Crazy, eh?

Our idea is this. We’ve got this cool car (a Zap Xebra, the first in Sacramento, in fact) and wanted do a custom skin for it. But, rather than skinning it with a great big company logo and tag line; we thought, “Why not use this as an opportunity to engage Sacramento in a dialogue about eco-urban community.”

Then, we thought: if it’s about community, why not invite the community to participate. So, we’ll have the question “What is Eco-Urban” in large font on both sides and then all of our hand-written “answers” scribbled all over the rest of the car. Voila!—the car becomes its own expression of eco-urban community: message and mission adjoined (with zero emissions, to boot). Last week, I met the guys at Old Soul and was blown away by the depth of thought and passion and honest hard work they are putting into their establishment; having the event there seemed…well…a given.

Frankly, my head just spins thinking about the levels and depths of connectivity.

We’ll have the car at Old Soul for you all to see and we’ll have lots of markers and butcher paper (or the like). You can bring your own message in answer to the question posed, or, if you can’t think of something, we’ll have some that we’ve thought up that you can own. Our graphic designer (Floyd @ EMRL) will then take the inscriptions and make a custom skin that we’ll wrap the car with. Within a few weeks, this snappy car will be driving all over the urban-core, and we can all point at it and say, “Hey, I’m a part of that!”

Cool, huh? Oh yeah, did we mention the coffee and baked goods are on us?…

What you’re reading here is pretty much the only advertising we’re doing other than email invites and a poster at Old Soul. So, invite your friends and tell others.

If you are coming, Old Soul needs a general idea of how much to prepare, so give us a heads-up and let us know if you’re bringing others. Just e-mail me at Jason@ljurban.com. That said, if you forget, don’t let it stop you from coming.

A correction to our e-mail announcement: Old Soul is behind Crepeville in the alley not behind Ernesto’s.

Sorry I couldn’t make the event…. when do we get to see photos? I’ll keep my eye out for the car.
