Picked up the free copy of USA today at my hotel room entrance and read with a mixture of interest and humor that Leonardo DiCaprio is developing (i.e. pitching) a reality show, E-Topia, that will document “the transformation of a town into a eco-friendly, green utopia of tomorrow“. According to the blurb, the project will focus on the “relationships between construction workers and eco-activists, architects and town planners.”
Maybe I need to get cable now.

I think that Leonardo Decaprio is fishing for a spotlight and that Green is just the next big thing for him. I am going to plan on missing this one all together.

Michael’s probably right. Green celebrities seem to be popping up right and left: our own “Governator” got “green” brownie points in the April Vanity Fair issue for his energy policy while simultaneously being a poster-boy for Hummers by his cameo in Pixar’s Cars. I’m never sure whether the spotlight helps or hurts the cause. On one hand, its exposure and could get more people embracing eco-thought and eco-lifestyles; on the other hand, it could just dull the masses who are tired of the hero-worship. I think overall change won’t come about because of high-profile spotlights, but because of the everyday person smart enough to realize that we can’t keep doing “business as usual” and expect different results.
